Healthy Ambitions founder, Mel PrenticeHaving been an extremely overweight and unhealthy chef for most of my adult life, in my early thirties I finally decided enough was enough and took my first tentative steps into the world of fitness. It took me nearly a year to work up the courage to set foot inside a class, but from then on I was hooked! My love of exercise classes – and love of the results – inspired me to train to coach others. Many years, seven dress sizes and 70lbs later I started Healthy Ambitions. Initially providing individual and small group fitness tuition from our exclusive purpose-built studio in Leith, I have expanded my knowledge and skills over the years through higher education, the most significant of which being an HND in Sports Therapy which allows me to assess and treat sports-related physical injuries.

With my ongoing enthusiasm for the industry, I enjoy updating my training to keep in line with current research and scientific thinking in order to give my clients the best possible service.

My own experience of major lifestyle change led to an interest in NLP – a method of modelling successful behaviour and applying it to your life for positive change. I enjoy using these techniques in coaching to help people achieve – no matter what their personal goals. Combining this with Pilates and relaxation techniques, I’m pleased to add stress management training to my repertoire of services.

My extensive experience in catering gives me a broad knowledge base from which to help clients fit healthy, delicious food around their busy lifestyles. Sharing tricks of the trade, planning strategies and time-management techniques means organising your weekly meals and treats doesn’t have to be a struggle. I also advise on healthy eating for fat loss, incorporating my own recipes as well as healthy versions of classic dishes. I make a specific point of avoiding reliance on short term gimmicks or placing an unhealthy focus on weight loss above all else – something which characterises the vast majority of the “diet” industry.
